I ran out of the room choking. And so began my history with board games.
See, this is how it happened. While they played board games, I was stuck with the left-over game pieces.
Too young. I heard it said so many times, I quit questioning why. I was especially too young for their marathon Monopoly games. Or so they thought.
So when the little green house lodged in my throat, the last thing I wanted was for my siblings to be even more convinced I was too young to play board games.
Well, choking was actually the last thing I wanted but it was too late for that. So here I was. Choking. In private. Good thing I hadn't stuck a red hotel in my mouth.

And it turned out Dad was right. Another one of his "isms". Never put anything smaller than an elbow in my mouth... or was that my ear? Regardless, I never choked again if you don't count Mom's bacon when I was a teenager.
Speed up several years. I found myself married with 4 daughters. Can you guess which family heirlooms I inherited? The board games, even Monopoly! Clue, Scrabble, Yahtzee, and Sorry too.

I'm telling you, my daughters and I played them like there was no tomorrow. In fact, our youngest became the Monopoly Tycoon.
As often happens, one thing led to another.
Following an extensive career in real estate and mortgage finance, I transitioned into informational websites to support homeownership in America.
In fact, you may recognize me from Get Your Best Mortgage Rate where I like to say...
"It's your home and your mortgage. No one cares more about them than you."
But I've never lost interest in board games. You know, like Monopoly games with Officer Malloy and his admonishment to players...
"Go to jail. Go directly to jail. Do not pass go, do not collect $200."
I still love board games today as much as the night I choked on the little green Monopoly house.
Of course there have been marvelous updates to classic board games. Today, there's Spongebob Monopoly, Scrabble games for your Kindle, and electronic game downloads.
So was it my acquired love for real estate and financing (green houses, red hotels, property deeds and tons of paper money, you get it right?) or that I always knew I wasn't too young to play Monopoly and other fun board games!
Either way, I have a website now about board games, yes I do! BoardGameGetaway.com where you should hold onto your hats as we list all board games!
